The 18th China Ecology Conference was grandly opened in Kunming

On November 28, 2019, the 18th China Ecology Conference hosted by the Chinese Society of Ecology and undertaken by Yunnan University was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province. More than 3,000 ecological scientists and technicians from more than 300 different units from 31 provinces, cities and autonomous regions across the country participated in the conference. Academician Fang Jingyun, Academician Kangle, Academician Liu Congqiang, Academician Yu Guirui, Chairman of the International Society of Ecology Eun-Shik Kim, Academician of the Royal Canadian Academy of Sciences Spencer Barrett, the organizer of the conference, Chairman of the Chinese Society of Ecology Ouyang Zhiyun, and other leaders attended the opening ceremony.The conference coincided with the 40th anniversary of the founding of the society, and the delegates watched the documentary of forty Years of Chinese Ecology Society. At the opening ceremony, Chairman Ouyang Zhiyun reviewed the main work and the landmark work achievements of the society since its establishment in the past 40 years, and pointed out that the society will continue to be cohesive and focus on improving the innovation and development of ecological disciplines, serving for party and government’s making decision and science and technology workers, improving service in scientific quality, contributing to Chinese economic and social development, ecological protection and ecological civilization construction.Vice Chairman An Lizhe read out the congratulatory letter sent by the Chinese Association of Science and Technology.The Chinese Association of Science and Technology highly affirmed the important contribution made by the Society to the development of ecological science and social progress in China, and expected the Society with the 40-year development of the Society to make a new and greater contribution in promoting the construction of a strong country with science and technology in the world, socialist ecological civilization, and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.Eun-Shik Kim, President of the International Society of Ecology, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, fully affirmed the status and active role of the Chinese Society of Ecology in the world, and hoped to conduct more extensive and in-depth international exchanges and cooperation with the Society. Academician Fang Jingyun, President of Yunnan University, warmly welcomes all leaders, experts and representatives to Kunming. He said that Yunnan University looks forward to taking the opportunity of the conference and working with fellow colleagues to devote itself to serving the strategic needs of the country and based on the main battlefield of ecological civilization. The opening ceremony of the conference was chaired by Wu Wenliang, deputy chairman of the society. The opening ceremony also held the 40th anniversary of the founding of the society, and awarded the "Ma Shijun Ecological Science Achievement Award" and "Chinese Ecological Society Outstanding Contribution Award". These two awards recognize eco-technologists who have made great contributions to the theory and application of ecology and those who have made important contributions to the development of the society.
